We are still celebrating the success of a special night with ScholarCHIPS (For Children of Incarcerated Parents) at their 13th annual award ceremony in Washington. A partnership for the books! We’re excited to share more about our work with ScholarCHIPS (For Children of Incarcerated Parents), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit committed to inspiring the children of incarcerated parents to complete a college education. This year, we joined forces to expand the reach of their scholarship program, making the application and award process available via a #Securus tablet. This resulted in a 900 percent increase in applications across 27 states! We’re proud to announce our partnership with Lexipol, leading provider of policy, training, and wellness support for public safety and government leaders. Securus is investing up to $100,000 in subscription-based training and certification developed by Lexipol’s Dr. Jamie Brower, president of the American Board of Police and Public Safety Psychology (ABPPSP). The introduction of secure tablets from Securus at Niagara County Correctional Facility significantly improved conditions for everyone in the facility. Staff reported that safety infractions went down 22 percent while connections between incarcerated individuals and their loved ones increased 67 percent in the first year. Maintaining relationships with loved ones is often challenging for incarcerated individuals. Michael Baldwin, who spent 26 years in a California correctional facility, faced this difficulty firsthand when his family moved to Florida, and visitation became nearly impossible. However, thanks to tablet technology, Michael not only saw his grandkids for the first time, but also stayed connected with his loved ones.
