We are excited to share a heartening success story from Gen Con 2023 that underscores the power of industry collaboration. When huge early sales began to deplete inventory at one of the most important consumer shows of the year, quick thinking, quicker action, and inspiring cooperation across company lines led to an emergency restock shipment for 16independent game publishing studios direct to the show in a matter of hours! It is one of PSi’s missions to help independent studios and publishers connect with their communities and we would like to celebrate the following special people from PSi who over-delivered on that mission - Megan Hinterman Kanous. When floated the idea of hiring a truck and driver to make an emergency overnight run from Atlanta to Indianapolis, it was Megan who sprang into action. She coordinated with the PSi staff in Georgia and then went from booth to booth explaining the opportunity and getting orders from 16 PSi vendor partners who needed to refresh inventory.Jordan Smith on the ground at PSi in Atlanta confirmed that the idea was feasible (at the end of the day on a Friday) and arranged for intrepid staff to complete the order after hours.Christopher Cruhigger turned a long list of hastily assembled titles into a coherent order with product codes that could be picked and delivered with 100% accuracy. Monopoly GO's Tycoon Racers event is a great example of player choice incentivizing further engagement. At first glance, the setup of Tycoon Racers is very similar to their previous events, where you have to team up with multiple players towards a common goal.The catch? You are now competing against other groups to get the top score! Teams go head to head with 3 races throughout the event, ensuring players are engaged throughout the whole time. Players can often get discouraged and disengage if only one main scenario occurs. This helps to keep the loop fresh and engaging. Not only that, but as you get rewards, players actually have to choose between currency or event points! This introduction of choice hones in on what the player's priorities are and what they want to do to progress in the event. It's not like you can finish the race and be done. The team has to constantly have the top points until the time period is up, which forces players to continue to play and come back. The results? In the SEC tournament finals, we put 3 players on their best player. Literally trapping the tournament MVP in his chair (which is completely legal) and forcing the rest of his team to bet us 4v2. It looks stupid, but we won. This is a great example of 80/20 thinking - 80% of their points came from 20% of their players. We stopped that 1 player and we won.What 20% of your efforts produce 80% of your results? Where do you need to over-commit resources to see disproportionate results?
